All "Bene Israel" whose family name is Satamker have their origin in the village of Satamba / Virjoli, in the Roha Taluka, Raigad District of the State of Maharashtra.

 

Many years ago I started to research the Satamkers' genealogy.

 

I succeeded in connecting the forefathers of several Satamkers living today, but I am still left with 5 branches for whom I did not find a common ancestor, yet.

 

I gave these five branches the following names..

 

ISSAJEE

 

The ancestor of this branch was named Issajee (Isaac) Satamker. He was probably born at the end of the 18th century. He was the father of: Daniel, Joseph and Balajee

 

NANDGAON (ex: BANDRA)

 

The ancestor of this branch was Sileiman Satamker.  His great grand son, Daniel Abraham Satamker (1869-1926) was the promoter of 

   D. Abraham & Sons (Shipping company in Mumbai).

This branch started in Nandgaon.

 

KARACHI

 

I named this branch "Karachi" because most of its members lived in this city, until the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan.

 

MUSIC

 

The ancestor of this branch was also a Sileiman Satamker. I call it the "Music branch" because they had and still have talented musicians among them. Just to name those who passed away: David and Nathan Satamker.

This Family may be Satamker, but it is not certain.

The ancestor was born in the first half of the 19th century. He was an officer in the Army and converted to Islam. He married  a muslim girl from a very prominent family and went to live in what is now Pakistan. His descendants changed their name , but they were told that their ancestor was a Satamker.
