THE SATAMKER (SATAMKAR) FAMILY WEBSITE
**********************************************************************************************
To all descendants of the SATAMKER (SATAMKAR) family
, For nearly 36 years, I have been researching the genealogy and history of this family, from which my adopted son descends.
I have visited many of you, primarily in Israel, but also twice in India, and in other countries in Europe and America.
I have recorded your stories, photographed family graves in India and Israel, and corresponded with you.
These thousands of hours of work have allowed me to reconstruct a large part of the genealogy of several branches of this family.
Thanks to the memories of its oldest members, I have gathered a wealth of valuable information about life in Satamba (now Virjoli), the family's ancestral village.
Most of you now live in Israel, the United States, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and so on. You have become citizens of your adopted countries. Your children, grandchildren, and other descendants are unaware of your family's past, and in particular what your daily life was like and the adventures you experienced from Satamba to Mumbai or Karachi, and from there to London, California, Ashdod, or Dimona.
In a few months, I will be 84 years old. Physically and mentally, I am well. But what about tomorrow?
It would be a shame if all these years of work could not culminate in the realization of the project conceived 36 years ago: a book about the Satamker family, with as complete a genealogy as possible and a wealth of information that brings to life the lives of its now-deceased members.
Many of you have contributed by answering my genealogical questions (names, surnames, dates and places of birth, marriage, and death), by sharing your own biographies or those of your ancestors, either orally or in writing, and by telling me about life in Satamba in the past.
Unfortunately, many of you still never reply to my messages, leaving my simple genealogical questions unanswered, and failing to send me (in written or oral form) the story of your own life or those of your ancestors.
It is to them that I make this final appeal today.
I need any biographical information concerning anyone whose father or mother was born SATAMKER, specifically: date and place of birth, marriage, and death. For married individuals: the full name of their spouse (for wives, the name should be their father's), their dates of birth and death, their father's first name, and their mother's maiden name.
To the older members of the family, I ask you to tell me everything you know about the SATAMKER family history, everything you know about the lives of your parents, grandparents, or even further back in your ancestry.
For those born in present-day India or Pakistan and now living in another country, please share the story of your journey.
Photographs, especially older ones, are also welcome. These days, they are easy to reproduce and send. I simply ask that they be at least 700 dpi in resolution.
Reproductions of documents, such as ketuboth, are also welcome.
Only a small selection of these photographs and documents will appear in the book. The rest will be recorded on DVD.
The easiest way is to write to me at one of the following email addresses:
Thank you in advance to all those who hear my appeal and respond.
